L’Atelier Extension de la Racine
Expertly rolled by Pete Johnson of Tatuaje, the L’Atelier Extension de la Racine was a yearly limited release from 2013 to 2017. L’Atelier cigar’s specific purpose, once released in 2013, was to show love and appreciation for retailers who attended that year’s PCA show.
What makes this smoke so limited is the quantity that was produced. Roughly over 30,000 cigars were made in a total of the L’Atelier Extension de la Racine.
Arriving in a box of 20, Pete Johnson shipped out a little over 1,500 boxes of the L’Atelier Extension de la Racine. So, if you were able to get your hands on a box of the L’Atelier Extension de la Racine, consider yourself lucky!

First Third
During my cold draw test, I detected a lot of spice and peppery notes. Once the L’Atelier Extension de la Racine was lit, not much changed from the first initial cold draw test. The taste of pepper overflowed my pallet but didn’t deter me away from enjoying this delicious smoke.
Second Third
As I entered the second third, I tried a few retro-hale puffs and experienced a whole new world of flavors.
Throughout the whole second-third of the smoke I experienced flavor notes of cinnamon, earth, and cocoa.
Maybe it was the Cold Brew beverage I was pairing alongside the ER17, but an abundance of sweetness hit my palate all at once and it was a nice shift from the first to the second third.
Final Third
Once I arrived at the final third, all the flavor notes from the first two-thirds remained with the addition of one more flavor note that I was not expecting to detect.
On the backend, a hint of Cashews filled my taste buds. It complimented the cinnamon and cocoa note extremely well.
Final Thoughts
This was my very first experience enjoying a cigar from L’Atelier. The flavor notes were right up my alley! As I smoked the L’Atelier Extension de la Racine down to the nub, I was extremely impressed by its construction all the way throughout.
As stated before, the cigar comes in a box of 20 for $175.50. Making the MSRP of this delicious smoke $8.75 per stick.
The average price for one cigar is anywhere from $9.00 to $11.00, so for a limited-edition smoke, I think this is a generous asking price that your wallet can handle.
The L’Atelier brand seems to be more for the cigar novice out there. I wouldn’t peg a new smoker to know what this is or be drawn to a smoke like this at first.
The L’Atelier Extension de la Racine is more for the developed pallet so you could appreciate the little nuances it provides with each and every puff.
