Brand Overview
Named after Alexandre Dumas’ novel The Count of Monte Cristo (1846), the Montecristo name was the brainchild of Alonso Menendez. He purchased the Particulares factory in Havana, Cuba, but he and his family fled Cuba following the nationalization of the cigar industry.
Their operations eventually moved to the Tabacalera de Gracia factory in the Dominican Republic, with a loophole enabling them to use the Montecristo name again. Handcrafted under the watchful eye of cigar master Jose Seijas, they have remained a household name in cigar circles.
