H. Upmann Connisseur Cabinet 01-70 (7 x 52)
They say money can’t buy you happiness. But when German banker Hermann Upmann traveled to Havana in 1843 to launch a German import/export company, he bought a local cigar factory. Just a year later, the first ‘H. Upmann’ cigar brand came to light.
Now a household name in the industry with a wealth of unique and flavorful lines to their name, they have one of the most captivating aromas of all Cuban-origin cigars.
Meriting the title ‘connoisseur’, the H. Upmann Connoisseur Cabinet 01-70 certainly delivers with its delicate light flavor, even burn, and highly floral aroma. This 7 x 52 Churchill sees a vintage, dark brown Connecticut wrapper envelope binder and filler tobaccos from the Dominican Republic.
It’s a lush, medium-bodied smoke with creamy notes of caramel, sweet spice, cocoa, and nuts that caress the palate. The retrohale with its prominent floral notes will also pique your interest.
When your smokes are this good, it’s little wonder H. Upmann remains one of the oldest cigar brands in production today. After all, form is temporary, class is permanent.
Montecristo Afrique Kilimanjaro
Nobody likes climbing proverbial mountains, but the Montecristo Afrique Kilimanjaro is well worth scaling. Montecristo cigars have always been able to satisfy the taste of both novice and veteran cigar smokers – this experimental, limited-edition 6 x 60 smoke is no exception.
The delicate spice of the toothy Cameroon wrapper covers an exotic blend that includes tobaccos from Cameroon and Tanzania. The latter is home to Africa’s tallest mountain and is where Montecristo located this rare filler that’s grown near the base of this beautiful summit. Combined with rich aged tobaccos from Peru and Nicaragua, it’s one of the most exciting blends in Montecristo’s impressive line-up.
Sporting the classic brown Montecristo band, a smart cedar sleeve, and “Kilimanjaro” printed in dark capitals vertically down its center, its look is equally distinctive and puffing with pride. A second black band at the foot of the cigar bears the Afrique name.
There are subtle woody notes on the cold draw that linger once lit. Rich and creamy to its core, this medium to full-bodied stick has some colorful transitions. It progresses from toast and spicy earth to creamy cocoa and dark coffee.
Don’t miss out on this nearly all-African blend for a complex, one-of-a-kind smoking journey.
Star Crossed by Romeo y Julieta Balcony
With Britain’s legendary wartime leader Winston Churchill as their biggest advocate (in return, the brand named a vitola after him), Romeo y Julieta is a much-loved name around the cigar world. The Spanish translation of William Shakespeare’s tragic love couple, the brand began in Cuba back in 1875.
While their Cuban operation still exists today, the 1962 Cuban embargo resulted in the private owners opening a second factory in the Dominican Republic. Many of their modern smokes are handcrafted here, such as the Star Crossed by Romeo y Julieta Balcony.
The tragedy’s famous balcony scene is where Romeo and Juliet reveal their true love to each other and plan a secret marriage. Thankfully, there’s nothing secretive about this medium-strength, Churchill-sized stogie, with its romantic band depicting Romeo ascending a ladder up to the balcony to meet his heart-throb Juliet.
The flavors are pronounced within its Dominican and Nicaraguan Blend, as a blissful marriage of sweet and spicy notes, including pepper spice, cocoa, and a wonderful coffee-chocolatey trail come together. Finished with an EMS Ecuador Connecticut wrapper leaf, this smoke is guaranteed to give all cigar lovers unconstrained joy and happiness.
